Rice exports shoot up
Since the beginning of 2009, rice exports have dramatically increased in both quantity and revenue to levels much higher than the same period of last year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The total earnings from nearly 600,000 tonnes of rice exported so far exceeded US$220 million, three times more than a year ago.
In the first 10 days of February, over 280,000 tonnes of rice were exported with a turnover of US$124 million (approximately equal to the total figure of January).
In the last two months, Vietnam exported rice mainly to the Philippines, Iraq, Cuba and the African countries of Ghana, Cameroon and Senegal.
